Frosted Pearl…      ***SOLD***      **EXAMPLE ONLY**

*THESE ARE MADE TO ORDER, SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR COLORS, AND QUANTITY, BEFORE ORDERING IN COMMENTS SECTION!*

Size: 14″ round

This is the first of many Seascape inspired Button Spheres, and my thought was that many of us absolutely love the beach, ocean, shells, colors of the sea, sand and sparkle. Why not enjoy it year round indoors too? We may not have an ocean view from our living room or bedroom window, but with these spheres nestled in just the right place, we can look at the colors and textures, and in no time at all, we are transported to the sand, walking along the shore, and collecting sea shells.

So many amazing buttons are used in this creation, such as mother of pearl, filigree, antique plastic molded buttons, vintage cloth, bakelite, glass, vintage glitter, rhinestones, smoky, iridescent pearl, celluloid, and more! Also, tucked in every nook and cranny, I’ve placed all sorts of sea shells, glass pebbles, and pearl pieces.

The images above show all sides of this orb, and whether you are in the middle of your aquatic vacation, or back at home, you can feel rejuvenated by the ocean breezes.

*And, if you have a beach house, or vacation home near the ocean, these will fit right in with the decor!

Whirlwind Gardens

Welcome to Buttonia!

There are some very special places in a land called Buttonia, (pronounced But toe nia), with the most beautiful forest and garden in all the world.

The Cranberry Forest, (pictured above in the second image), is known for it’s bright colors, beautiful and very unique birds, gorgeous buttons that grow on the trees, which are lustrous shades of every color you can imagine, and cranberry sky!

You might remember “Cranberry Forest”, which SOLD last year to a very special customer for her grandchild!

Next to the Cranberry Forest, there is a glorious flower garden, called Whirlwind Gardens. It is just amazing! The flowers are created after being tumbled about in a glittery whirlwind, and then tossed into the garden, at just the right moment!
In this garden, the butterflies and birds are glittery! Dragonflies, frogs, ladybugs, crickets and more, play in the garden every day! There are stars in the sky, and floating sequins soaring throughout the garden.

There’s even shiny, sparkly rhinestone flowers that grow along paths and close to streams!
The sky is a beautiful shade of Cranberry or Turquoise, and the clouds are always bright and cheery!

Whirlwind Gardens…

Many unique and special vintage and antique buttons were used, such as antique cut glass, china, dyed mother of pearl, bakelite, metal, celluloid, leather, and much more!

Vintage Button Posies…

🌸🌹🍀🍃🌼🌻Vintage Button Posies…

I know I may say this with a new creation, but this definitely has to be one of my favorites!!!!! I’ve wanted to make a bouquet of flowers in a vase for some time now! I can see this being very popular, and made in a small and large size.

This piece is large, 16″x20″. The background is a mixture of Steel Gray and Green Tea.

The vintage/antique buttons are miniature works of art. Each one is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are amazing – and just pop!

I’ve used two different rhinestone chains for the stems of the flowers, as well as seed beads and colored rhinestones on the vase.

The inspiration for the vase came from a wooden vase that we have had for a long time.

Vintage Button Cards!

image image

🐚🐙🐠🐟🐋🐳🌊⚪◽The artwork and designs on these vintage button cards are awesome. I thought I would share a couple that I just used. I emptied one card of mother of pearl buttons, but there are still a few on the other one. There’s a lot more design and color on these button cards, and it sure is a lot of fun when you stumble onto one.

Vintage and Antique Mother of Pearl Button Fascination…

image image

“Pearls don’t lie on the seashore. If you want one, you must dive for it.” -Chinese proverb

****I have had a fascination with vintage mother of pearl buttons for as long as I can remember.

There is a fun and interesting history with these beauties…German-born button maker, John Fredrick Boepple, immigrated to the US and brought the rise of mother of pearl buttons to popularity and made them available to the masses. Even though automation had come to the button making process in Europe in the mid 1800s, the process of stamping them from shells required specialized and expensive machinery. As well, the shells Boepple used had to be imported and were subject to an extremely high tariff. With his business failing, John Boepple brought his button stamping machinery to the one place he was sure could supply him an endless supply of shells – the US and the Mississippi River.

He settled in Muscatine, Iowa at a bend in the river where great amounts of fresh-water clams grew. Thanks to the mighty Mississippi, his mother of pearl button business grew beyond his wildest dreams. By 1900, Boepple expanded his operations to the point that he employed one third of the town of Muscatine, which became known as “Pearl City” and the “Pearl Button Capital of the World,” out-pacing button factories in Europe. The export value of mother of pearl buttons at the turn of the century was well over $3.5 million dollars…quite a sum for the time!!!!! —Amy Barickman

On my bucket list is to visit the Muscatine History and Industry Center and Pearl Button Museum. It would be amazing! Hopefully, one day, I will!!!

So you see, there is a real history with these shiny, iridescent beauties.
